The Lord’s Supper (2025)

The Lord’s Supper (2025)

Last year, our church celebrated the Lord’s Supper weekly leading up to Easter. As the elders discussed this decision, one key point we kept coming back to was this: the Lord’s Supper is a blessing from Christ for His people. As our Statement of Faith says, “These ordinances [baptism and the Lord’s Supper] are visible signs of the saving work of Christ that God has designed for our spiritual benefit.”

We recognize that the New Testament does not prescribe the exact frequency we ought to celebrate it. Some churches celebrate it weekly, others monthly (like ours), others quarterly, and some only annually. The question of frequency (within limits) is one of wisdom and discernment, not of right or wrong.

This year the elders have decided to celebrate it weekly from the beginning of the year until Easter.

We recognize that for some of you, this was what you were used to at your prior church. We also recognize that for many of you, weekly communion is a strange thing. Our hope is that weekly celebration will deepen our appreciation of this ordinance and our affection for Christ as we are continually pointed to Him who died in our place.

Toward that aim, I (pastor Taylor) will be writing a few brief articles answering the following questions:

  • What is the Lord’s Supper?
  • Who is the Lord’s Supper for?
  • Is weekly communion a Roman Catholic thing?
  • What did the church in centuries past do?
  • How do I prepare for the Lord’s Supper?
